Mid-Atlantic Ridge hike

The Mid-Atlantic ridge hike features a trail to the peak of Mount Stapafell in an active volcanic and geothermal area on the Reykjanes peninsula. The scenery in the area is otherworldly to say the least and the perfect place for capturing amazing drone footage of you hiking in Iceland. The drive to your start point takes approximately 25 minutes and the hike to the summit will take approximately 1 hr 30 minutes for a total tour time of 4 hours. This hike is the perfect excursion into Icelandic wilderness and you’ll be back in town for happy hour!

The Reykjanes peninsula is one of the youngest parts of Iceland. The area is very active volcanically and the volcanoes here are responsible for the lava fields you see across the peninsula and even in the capital Reykjavik. As you hike the ridge towards the summit vast moss covered lava fields appear to the west. To the east you’ll see Lake Kleifarvatn and the amazing landscape formed by the interaction between glaciers and volcanoes. Finally, at the summit, the view of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where it rises out of the ocean is a reminder of the great forces at work here.

You’ll get a professional fully edited drone video of your hike afterwards and we’ll share tales of Icelandic history along the way.
